Ring in the Holidays with 3 Redneck Tenors

Ring in the Holidays with 3 Redneck Tenors (Posted: November 9, 2009)     (Printable Version)

Nothing says “Christmas spirit” like good ol’ boys singing carols, which is just what “3 Redneck Tenors Christmas Spec-Tac-Yule-Ar” brings to town Nov. 30.

Join Billy Joe, Billy Bob and Billie Billee as they light up the trailer park with a variety of holiday favorites as part of Season of Entertainment 29 sponsored by the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. at the Arkansas Best Corp. Performing Arts Center at the Fort Smith Convention Center, 55 S. 7th. Admission is by Season 29 season ticket, or individual tickets are $22 and $19 and are available at www.uafortsmith.edu.

The concert is performed by the same cast of the “3 Redneck Tenors – a New Musical Adventure.” Starring real Broadway and opera stars, the “Christmas Spec-Tac-Yule-Ar” promised to rock the holidays with classic, pop and deep-fried musical delights.

“This should be a great show for everyone,” said Stacey Jones, associate vice chancellor for campus and community events. “As one review describes the Tenors, ‘They’re like Pavarotti with a mullet.’”

Included are such holiday favorites as “Sleigh Ride,” “White Christmas,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “O Holy Night,” “Jingle Bells” and “Silent Night,” sprinkled with spoofs like “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.”

The cast includes John Wilkerson, Broadway alum of “Abby’s Song,” “State Fair” and “Peter Pan”; Matthew Lord, who has performed with operas in San Francisco, Houston, Washington and Dallas; and Alex Bumpas, an up-and-coming performer who has already worked as a soloist with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Bach Society and the Orchestra of New Spain.

UA Fort Smith packages national touring productions with UA Fort Smith concerts and productions into the Season of Entertainment schedule each year. “3 Redneck Tenors Christmas Spec-Tac-Yul-Ar” is one of seven national touring productions on this year’s Season of Entertainment slate. Also scheduled are 10 UA Fort Smith student productions and concerts.
