Mathematics Club
uafsmathclub@gmail.com
The mathematics club is an organization of students interested in promoting mathematics on campus and in the community. The club is also an official student chapter of the Mathematical Association of America. Members participate in campus activities as well as host some of their own. Members attend mathematical conferences as well. Mathematics majors and minors as well as anyone interested in mathematics are encouraged to attend meetings. The Mathematics Club uses their funds to support student mathematical activities including trips to mathematics conventions. New faces are always welcome and encouraged! Meeting times vary so be sure to watch for fliers posted on the instructors doors in the math-science building when a meeting is approaching.

Pi Day
The Mathematics Club hosts Pi day on each March 14th. For a couple of weeks prior to Pi Day students vote on their "favorite" mathematics or science teacher by placing money in that teacher's container in the office of the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The "winner" is awarded a Pi in the face. Dr. Belcher was the first "winner" in 2005, in 2006 Dr. Jackson received the pie, and the 2007 champion is once again Dr. Jim Belcher.
Halloween Fund Raiser
In a similar manner a competition was held around Halloween to raise funds. For this competition there were seperate categories for male and female instructors. The 2006 "Trick your Teach" "winners" were our Mr. and Mrs. Clown: Drs. Dan and Kathy Pinzon. These two "winners" demonstrated their support of the Mathematics Club by wearing clown costumes and makeup on Halloween.
