Center for Lifelong Learning

UA Fort Smith Fountain of Learning

Welcome

The Center for Lifelong learning supports the community by providing non-credit learning opportunities for community members of all ages. Our staff and instructors are committed to the view that learning is a lifelong process.

The Center offers the following opportunities for people of all interests:

  • Academy of the Arts – Offers private and class instruction in the performing arts, teaching students and adults of all ages and skill levels.

  • Personal Enrichment – Learn foreign languages (Vietnamese, German, Spanish, French), digital photography, commercial roofing, floor tiling, and more!

  • Professional Development for Teachers – Earn professional development credits for training in technology, parental involvement, and other fields.

  • Lifelong Learning Institute – Offers learning opportunities for citizens to participate in classes and travel. Seniors may qualify for free admission to all home sporting events and student productions. The Institute is also offering eight personal enrichment courses this spring.

  • Travel and Tours – From local leisure travel to trips to New York and Britain, our Travel and Tours program offers incredible experiences.

  • Scholar Series – University professors share their research interests in such varied fields as history, humor, math, science, and sociology.

  • Bridging Generations – Grandparents and parents may attend a summer camp with grandchildren and children! Bridging Generations is designed for adults and youths to spend time together while attending classes and sharing hands-on learning activities.

For more information about these exciting new learning opportunities, visit us online at www.uafortsmith.edu and click on the Community tab. You may also call us directly at (479) 788-7212 or contact us by e-mail at cll@uafortsmith.edu.

Join us on a journey of education that extends beyond the classroom.

How do I register?

If you have a credit card, you may register by telephone. If not, you may request a registration form or print one from our Website and fax or mail the completed form with your payment. If you prefer, you may visit the Center for Lifelong Learning Office in person to register. Students must make their payments at the time of registration. All Lifelong Learning classes require registration in advance due to space limitations. How much does it cost to take a class?

The registration fees for classes vary depending on the number of class hours. Some classes require textbooks, materials, lab fees or insurance. Fixed costs will be listed under “Fees” below each class. Where a textbook or other supplies are needed, every effort is made to announce this in the class description. Because supplies needs are highly variable, they may not be listed for every class.

What if I have to drop out of a class?

Students are eligible for a 100% refund if they withdraw from a class before the class begins, or if the class is canceled by the college. Students who withdraw after the class begins but before the “10%” point (before 10% of the total number of class hours have been taught) may receive a 75% refund upon request. Please read our Refund Policy.

May I take a class more than once?

Yes.

Can I earn college credit for taking a class through the Center for Lifelong Learning?

Lifelong Learning opportunities do not earn credit toward a degree; however, the Continuing Education Unit (CEU) serves as a unit to recognize an individual’s participation in non-credit activities that meet the appropriate criteria.
