Microforms

A picture of the microform cabinet

Microfilm and microfiche (the collective term is microforms) are located in cabinets located just outside Room 204. The library uses microfilm and microfiche for preservation and for compact storage of magazines, journals, and newspapers such as the New York Times and the Southwest Times Record.

Microforms are of two types:

  • Microfilm-----filmed text and images stored on reels
  • Microfiche---filmed text and images stored on cards

Room 204, the Copy and Scanning Center, contains machines that can be used to view and photocopy both microfiche and microfilm. If you want a copy of the front page from the New York Times in 1972 or an article that appeared in the Southwest Times Record, you can use microfilm to obtain the information.
