Nursing Research Databases
Use a research database to locate journal articles on nursing. Be aware that each database will have unique terminology and limiters. Look for a link to either a Subject List or to a Thesaurus where you will find official subject headings, broader and narrower terms, and related terms. Health-Related Databases CINAHL Plus with Full Text : Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health LiteratureIndexing to articles about nursing, allied health, biomedical, consumer health. Provides evidence-based research on the effectiveness of healthcare treatments and interventions. Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition
Provides full-text to 600 scholarly journals focusing on many medical disciplines. Also included are abstracts and indexing for more than 850 journals. Medline
Corresponds to the print indexes Index Medicus, Index to Dental Literature, and International Nursing Index. Includes thousands of records with substantial abstracts. Health Source: Consumer Edition
Provides full-text for nearly 300 consumer health publications. Health topics include the medical sciences, food sciences and nutrition, childcare, sports medicine, and general health.
ScienceDirect
Provides full-text to over 600 journals in the sciences. Some research databases provide full-text to journal articles or books from within the database with links to either HTML or PDF documents. If full-text is not available (no hot links) then you must determine the best way to locate the document. Follow these general guidelines:
- Is the document a book or a journal article? This information is usually available within the citation.
- Books - Check the Boreham Library Online Catalog to see whether we own the book.
- If not, consider borrowing the book from another library through Interlibrary Loan.
- Click on the Interlibrary Loan option following the citation.
- Allow 10-14 days for delivery and each item costs $1 processing fee.
- Journal Articles - Click on the Find Full Text option following the citation to determine if full-text is available from another database.
If not, consider requesting a photocopy of the article from another library through Interlibrary Loan.
- Click on the Interlibrary Loan option following the citation. Some databases fill in the ILL form automatically; some take you to the Boreham Library ILL form and you must type the item information yourself.
- Allow 7 days for delivery and each item costs $1 processing fee.
- Books - Check the Boreham Library Online Catalog to see whether we own the book.
