Tips for Searching the Journal of the Fort Smith Historical Society:

A Subject search will return records that have the word anywhere in the subject field. A search on "greenwood" will return:

• Courthouse at Greenwood burns
• Greenwood Memorial Cemetery

Search on the singular form of the word.

• a search on "school" will find all occurances of the word "schools"

Use the % sign to replace an unlimited number of letters following a word root. For example:

• darr% returns both darragh and darrough

Use the connector AND to narrow your search.

• fort smith and river

Use the connector OR to broaden your search.

• hospital or clinic

About the Index to the Journal of the Fort Smith Historical Society:

The Journal of the Fort Smith Historical Society began publication in 1977. This index is a direct transcription of the index pages from the individual issues and will contain a number of inconsistencies in subject heading format. The index is a work in progress and will be improved as time permits. Please feel free to contact us to report any obvious errors.
