The Encyclopedia of Arkansas History and Culture

"The mission of the Encyclopedia of Arkansas Project (as stated on its website) is to collect and disseminate information on all aspects of the state’s history and culture and to provide a comprehensive reference work for historians, teachers, students, and individuals for the purpose of promoting the study, understanding, and appreciation of Arkansas’s heritage." The Encyclopedia will be maintained and updated by staff from the Butler Center for Arkansas Studies.

Index Arkansas

Library faculty and staff from the UA Fayetteville, Mullins Libraries' Reference and Special Collections departments created Index Arkansas which has more than 40,000 entries, covering the 1880s to the present. The database indexes articles and other information published in: county history journals, selected statewide magazines, and selected book titles.

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Index - 1957, 1994-1999

Library staff from the Arkansas Tech University, Ross Pendergraft Library created this index. Of special interest is indexing coverage of the Little Rock Crisis of 1957. Requests for photocopies from the year 1957 need to be ordered using the Interlibrary Loan Service. Full text from 1984 to present is available through the Lexis Nexis Academic database.

Arkansas Historical Quarterly Cumulative Index

This cumulative index covers volume 1 (1942) to present and provides indexing ONLY. Print volumes of this publication are available on the 2nd floor of the library, shelved alphabetically by title.

Arkansas State and Local Newspapers

The newspapers are available in microfilm format only. All titles, except the Southwest Times Newspaper, are located in The Pebley Historical and Cultural Center, Room 106, of the Boreham Library.

FORT SMITH AND SEBASTIAN COUNTY

Pebley Center

The Olive, Kathleen, and Rosa Belle A. Pebley Historical and Cultural Center Collection was established in 2003 and focuses primarily on the early history of Fort Smith and the immediate surrounding counties. The collection, located in Room 106 of the Boreham Library, is non-circulating and may be used by the public as well as the University community.
