The TEACH grant is a new program designed to assist those dedicated to becoming teachers and helping to shape our future. The TEACH grant is worth up to $4000 per year for up to 4 years.
However, if you do not fulfill your
"Agreement to Serve" (ATS),
the grant becomes a Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan, and has to be repaid.
The
ATS requires that you teach for four academic years within eight years after you graduate from college. You must also teach in a subject area defined as
"high-need," as well as teach in a school that serves
low-income families.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Complete a FAFSA each year
- Be a US citizen or eligible non-citizen
- Meet one of two academic achievements: either score above the 75th percentile on an admissions test (ACT, SAT, GRE, etc.) or maintain a 3.25 GPA.
- Sign an "Agreement to Serve" (ATS) each year.
You can visit the Department of Ed's
TEACH Grant website, as well as the website for the
"Agreement to Serve" for all the information you need to know. You can also read through two fact sheets, one for the
TEACH grant(
PDF)
and one for the
ATS(
PDF).
If you decide this program might be for you, come by the Financial Aid office and speak with one of our advisors.
