2008 SPRING CONFERENCE and BREAKFAST In Review

Communication and Conflict Management in the Family Firm

Smith—Pendergraft Campus Center, Reynolds Room

The April 16 spring conference of the Family Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith featured guest speaker Dr. Barry Graff, an organizational consultant and the founder of Family/Business Systems based in San Diego.

Dr. Graff presented a talk titled “I Don’t Want to Talk about It: Communication in the Family Business” at the 7:30 a.m. breakfast. Immediately following the breakfast, he conducted a workshop at 9:30 a.m. titled “Tools for Better Communication and Conflict Management.” The event was held in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. The conference ended at 11:45 a.m.



2007 FALL CONFERENCE and BREAKFAST in Review

The November 14 fall conference of the Family Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith featured guest speaker Ann Dugan, founder, executive director and assistant dean of the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence in the Joseph M. Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh.

Dugan spoke on “Re-energizing the Entrepreneurial Spirit of the Family Firm” at the 7:30 a.m. breakfast. Immediately following the breakfast, she conducted a workshop at 9:30 a.m. titled “Building an Innovative Family Business Culture.” The event was held in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. The conference ended at 11:45 a.m.


2007 Spring Conference and Luncheon in Review

The April 16 spring conference of the Family Enterprise Center at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith featured guest speaker Dr. Stephen L. McClure, principal of The Family Business Consulting Group Inc. in Marietta, GA.

At 10:00 a.m., Dr. McClure spoke with College of Business faculty about current issues in family business. He spoke on “Compensation Issues in the Family Business” at the 11:45 a.m. luncheon. He also conducted a workshop at 2 p.m. titled “Strategic Planning for the Family Business.” The event was held in the Reynolds Room of the Smith-Pendergraft Campus Center. The conference ended at 3:15 p.m.



The Family Enterprise Center at the UA Fort Smith College of Business was established to assist in the growth and success of family businesses in the Fort Smith area through educational programs, to support relationships between other family businesses and service providers, and to provide a forum that promotes family business in the community.
