Westark College and University of Arkansas - Fort Smith Project
In 1997, what was then the Westark College Foundation suggested that
oral history interviews be gathered from former students, faculty, and
staff. Those interviews would provide personal accounts and memoirs of
the seven decades of the college's existence.
As the program to accomplish this goal unfolded, current students in
honors history courses became the centerpiece of the plan. Students
did many of the interviews and then transcribed them. Faculty members,
the ladies of the word processing department, and library staff helped
with the interviews, transcription work, and indexing.
The resulting 150 interviews give a unique and accurate view of the
history of the college.
The interviews are stored in the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith
archives for use by future historians. Some have been placed on this
web site for your access.
