Geospatial Information Systems

Geospatial Information Systems

Program Overview

Students in the Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) program are prepared for employment in the field of GIS or to continue with their college education in related academic fields. They will become familiar with the components and functions of the following technologies: geographic information system, global positioning system, land information system, remote sensing, cartography, and photogrammetry. The program offers a 2-year Applied Associates of Science Degree, a 1-year Technical Certificate, and a 15+ hour Proficiency Certificate. The Technical and Proficiency Certificate hours can be applied toward the 2-year program. Academic fields such as Wildlife Biology, Computer Science, Forestry, Geography, Geology, or one of more than 79 other degree fields are now using these technologies. The program is highly technical and requires a great deal of computer work to successfully navigate all of the program requirements. A strong emphasis is placed on teamwork and application projects from start-to-finish.
