The College of Business provides our students with the opportunities to apply scholarship to the real- world workplace. Our mission embraces interpersonal, technological and functional business competencies, preparing our graduates for a global perspective and with skills to assume leadership roles. This endeavor is supported by an integrated practice-oriented curriculum that emphasizes leadership, ethics and entrepreneurship. Core business disciplines include accounting, economics, finance, management and marketing and are presented in each academic level throughout the four year degree programs.
Faculty is involved in continuous instructional development and applications-oriented research, resulting in dynamic course content and impact-related outcomes. Recent course offerings include Law for Entrepreneurs, Business Plan Development and international business experiences and evolving business simulation activities.
The College maintains a commitment to provide our region with a growing talent pool, serving our stakeholders and contributing to the economic health of our area. We educate over 1000 Business Majors, pursuing degrees in Business Administration, Accounting, and Marketing.
As we continue to define ourselves as the business college of choice in our extended region, we are increasingly recognized for our applications approach to management education, research and services. The College of Business oversees a Student Portfolio Fund Management program which allows students to research and management investments. Working in tandem with The Family Enterprise Center, The Small Business Development Center and The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, The College of Business and The University of Arkansas- Fort Smith are leaders in business solutions and leadership.
Every effort is made to maintain a low number of students per course. Routinely, our students’ evaluations reflect an appreciation for the learning opportunities that come from an environment where professors and instructors are readily available to guide each person in the classroom. Our faculty is dedicated to a learning climate that encourages the full potential of each of our students.
The role of each professor is integral to the whole of the College of Business. Our teaching staff is involved in research, advising and in the classroom. Student success is the outcome of these efforts.
UA Fort Smith’s mission is to respond to the educational needs of its region. Preparing for the future of both our community and our students has been a longstanding practice that allows our College of Business to continue to grow. Lower division courses introduce theory and primary fields of business study to students in an integrative environment. Upper division courses combine classroom experiences with workplace expectation and application. Internships and opportunities to simulate real-life situations and decision-making processes are signature objectives in the educational roadmap of the College of Business. As the College continues to grow, the initial commitment to meeting student potential with community need remains proven.
A tradition of success is now 80 years old.
