Pantheon

By Tim Harrell

The house always wins,
That house of pain,
The illusion of gain,
Where the weary, sunken
Idolater sins and tithes
His life away.

The sirens sing to him,
Sweet music assures his luck,
Just as long he takes
His last buck to lose
While crashing to his debt.

He is watched by Zeus and
Ares as he decides his final bet.
Surely the gods will take pity,
Even Hera wants to ease
Regret.

The human shoves his lost dollar
Into the machine of oft lost dreams.
As Zeus gloatingly turns to Ares,
You have lost the bet
It seems.
