SPIN is designed to guide single parents through their college journey and give single parents the opportunity to be successful and productive. Our number one goal is to help single parents stay in college.

There are a growing number of single parents coming back to school. SPIN a division of OARS is designed for single parents. If you’re a single parent being involved in SPIN can make a difference. If you are raising children alone for any reason you are considered a single parent.

You may:

• Have a spouse in the military
• Be a grandparent who has taken a guardianship role
• Be a widow with children
• Be divorced raising children
• Be single with children
• Be separated from spouse with children

There are many reasons people are single parents. SPIN is designed to focus on single parents and their individual needs. SPIN is here to treat all single parents with equal respect.

We encourage all single parents to get involved in our organization through OARS. If you’re a busy person who can’t attend meetings you are not alone. OARS is the only on-line club at the UA Fort Smith campus. Adult and returning students work hard and do not have time to attend meetings. By giving your e-mail address you can be informed about the OARS family banquets, scholarship opportunities, staff meetings and campus activities.
